01

Tuning

Piano tuning involves the careful adjusting of tension in the roughly 230 strings on the piano to create a stable tuning in which all notes work together harmonically. If the piano has not been tuned in several years, a pitch raise may be needed prior to fine tuning.

02

Repair

I have experience with a wide variety of repairs to keys, strings, actions, casters, etc. Many repairs can be done in the home and often during the tuning appointment. Some repairs will require additional time and possibly will require repairs to be done in my shop.

03

Regulation

Piano regulation is the process of adjusting the moving parts of a piano to ensure that all 88 keys have an equal touch when played. This includes the piano’s action, keyboard, and dampers. Over time, cloth, felt, leather, and wooden parts can become compressed and will no longer perform their best. Regulation can greatly improve the feel and responsiveness of the piano.

04

Voicing

Piano voicing, also known as tone regulation, involves a variety of techniques to adjust the piano’s tone to produce an even tone throughout the piano. The shape, density, and hardness of the hammer felts can be changed to produce a desired effect, such as a brighter or warmer tone.

05

Reconditioning

Reconditioning returns your piano to the way it was made to play and sound by replacing felt and leather parts, deep cleaning and lubrication of action and key frame, hammer reshaping or replacement, new bass strings or full string replacement to return the piano to its original feel and tone as much as possible.

06

Humidity Control Systems

Humidity changes cause wood to swell and contract, which is the main cause of pianos getting out of tune. Dampp Chaser humidity control systems can keep your piano at a more consistent humidity and help maintain longer and more stable tunings.

I provide reliable tuning, repair and regulation services for your piano.
